Just P2 D1 L1 against this merged team. Last game was away in May, a 1-2 loss with McQuoid scoring from a Shields assist. That was one of only 3 goals of 20 that McQuoid has scored away. He has scored 20 in 74 games overall but 17 in 42 at home!
We lost the only two previous games v former team Solihull Borough but had a better W7 D4 L6 record v Moor Green although there was a couple of stonking losses in there!
Only won once away on this date in last 40 years - Salisbury in 2001 and we are 7 games without a win v West Midlands teams (Solihull & Stourbridge).
We are currently on a run of 13 games without scoring a penalty. Will our luck be in today?
Phew. Made a mountain out of that one. Great comrmentary that had me Sweating buckets for five minutes there. Still no harm done and another 3 points. Well done. Happy days.
They were always going to come back at us in the 2nd half, but make no mistake about it, we have beaten a very good team who will be up there at the end of the season. Now i am off for a lie down too...😁
The penalty award sounded dodgy and great the keeper saved it only beaten on the rebound. I expect Brian won’t be happy that we concede 3 goals but fantastic we have got 3 points on our travels and scored 4 goals.
What a fantastic performance by all the lads away from home.
We should fear no one as no one gives us much more than an outside chance of staying up I think some clubs are going to be surprised at what we can do and starting with Notts next week I hope we will make clubs stand up and take notice of what we can do as we have shown in the last two games
We fully deserved the win today, no question. Solihul did not play Monday and our lads had to really dig in against a resolute referee who seemed determined Moors should get something from the game!! McQuoids goal was a beauty, as were the other 3! Ref made some strange decisions, not least the penalty but it mattered not in the end! Noisey coach home but I really must change my underwear! Ole, ole, ole, ole, Weymuff, Weymuff!! COYT!
On reflection, what a performance that was from the lads! They worked so hard, played some great football and really took the game to a very good full time, footballing team who had the day off on Monday! It was not a bruising physical encounter, in my opinion, but a contest between two teams who wanted to play football. That we outplayed them for large parts is testament to how far we have come and how much we have learnt, both management and players. Plenty still to do, but it was a pleasure to witness (well at the final whistle then, heart rate and BP a bit elavated there for a while). We had a birds eye view above the dug outs and Neil Ardley showed his experience. Their keeper went down with a mystery injury (he just had a drink from the physio), meanwhile, Ardley gathered his players round and totally re-organised, very clever. Made instant impact with a goal back. But then up pops Ash, onto a long ball over the top, plenty to do but did it in style! McQuoids goal was pure class, it is like he has found a happy place in this league, thriving! Nothing wrong with our play and tactics, their second goal was a very well worked move. After that, we looked to be doing what was required, the ref was making some odd decisions. Someone next to me said he is gonna give them a pen at the first opportunity, it was rather pathetic really, no thinking time at all, couldn't point to the spot quick enough. So, yes, when the board went up for 6 minutes, no idea where 6 minutes came from, it did get a bit fraught, but we hung in there and fully deserved our win against a damn good side on their own patch. Omar rolled his ankle and said he should be fine, McQuoid went off because we need to look after him and Mr T went off because he was blowing out the proverbial! Every player put in a shift and Ben Morgan had a bloody face at the final whistle. Tells you everything about our squad! Plenty of areas to improve and we have much to learn still. Our opening schedule has been bonkers, but we have points on the board! COYT!
Yeah, minutes after that keeper's "injury", he made a great double save, just as we thought we were going to extend our lead further!
Ash, and Moors' Sbarra, were both in line for the matchball today, but gawd knows which one they would have got as at least half a dozen went over the end stand, and I think one went over your stand too, Pete!
For me, the challenge to our three points came in the 68th minute, when Moors brought on Justin Donawa (the number 17). He immediately caused issues down our left flank, time after time. Some great blocks in the middle as the crosses flew in, however, unable to prevent their second, well-worked, goal.
Unlucky to concede the third after a great penalty save, but there were more yellow shirts following up from the save than our own. If the ball had rebounded to the other side, who knows.
In the end, didn't matter. Excellent performance and a justified three points.
Forgot to say that Solihul as well as being full time, are also primarilly bank rolled by a wealthy owner and they have plans in place go bring league football in X amount of time! The gent used to be involved with Oxford United recently! Not a big fan of the plan myself, AFC Fylde are proof it is not all about money! It is the foundation yes, but not the keystone! Teamwork is the keystone!
